Infancy to Pre-K

The building blocks of literacy develop beginning in infancy. Day-to-day activities expose babies and toddlers to sounds, words, speech, and print. Researchers have found strong evidence that children can learn reading and writing in their earliest years, long before they go to school. The Institute makes available for parents, families and caregivers as well as educators and researchers information developed from scientifically based research that explains the skills very young children can learn to prepare them to become successful readers as they get older.
