Hello, everyone.
A new brief is available from the CAELA Network and can be downloaded at http://www.cal.org/caelanetwork/resources/transitions.html
Promoting Learner Transitions to Postsecondary Education and Work: Developing Academic Readiness Skills From the Beginning <https://mail.cal.org/exchange/mburt/Drafts/RE:%20[ELA%205579]%20%22Teaching%20Adult%20English%20Language%20Learners%20with%20EmergingLiteracy%20Skills%22%20-last%20day.EML/transitions.html>
Betsy Parrish and Kimberly Johnson
Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota
March 2010
This brief reviews the literature on the skills needed for adult English language learners to transition to academic study or work and offers examples of activities and strategies that can be used at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of ESL instruction to help learners develop these skills.
Hope you find it useful.
Miriam
P.S. I'm at the TESOL conference this week, and transitioning adult English language learners to work or further study is a hot topic here as expected. The value of this brief is that it is very teacher-friendly - activities to use with learners at all levels of English proficiency from beginning on up are described in detail.
