Abstract

IMET is a tool for evaluating a comprehensive textbook or textbook series for alignment to the Shifts and major features of states’ challenging academic content standards. For use with all levels of ELA/literacy materials and mathematics materials K-8 or high school. The IMET is a tool within the Materials Alignment Toolkit, developed by Student Achievement Partners in partnership with Achieve, the Council of Chief State School Officers, and the Council of Great City Schools.

Benefits and Uses

The IMET tools are easily adapted to an adult education setting by altering some of the references to “grade-by-grade” and “on-grade-level” to language that is more relevant in the adult education arena.

Use IMET tool to:

  1. make informed decisions about purchasing a textbook series;
  2. evaluate previously purchased materials to identify necessary modifications; and
  3. build an understanding of what aligned materials look like.

Be sure to review IMET’s professional development resources, including the training module and videos.
