BetterLesson - Common Core Math
BetterLesson provides a well-organized collection of teacher-created mathematics lessons that address each of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for mathematics.
BetterLesson was founded by a group of teachers from Atlanta and Boston public schools to support K-12 teachers. Through its “Master Teacher Project,” high-performing teachers across the country share their comprehensive lessons and effective strategies with teachers across the globe.
BetterLesson provides a well-organized collection of teacher-created mathematics lessons that address each of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for mathematics. As the lessons are aligned to the CCSS, you can search for lessons aligned to College and Career Ready (CCR) math standards. You may need to adapt some of the lessons in the lower CCSS grade levels to more adult appropriate content. Note that a number of lesson plans are provided for each standard, so if one does not work, there may be others that are appropriate.
Use these classroom-ready lessons with your students. Professional development (PD) staff may also find these lessons useful for developing PD activities. Each lesson includes detailed instructor notes and directions on how to implement the lessons. Related resources (handouts, manipulatives, etc.), video (in some cases), and a teacher reflection are also provided for each lesson. Users can also provide feedback on the lesson and read the comments of others. The lessons can be used across a variety of program structures including multi-level classes and open enrollment.
The variety of organizational structures (by standard, education level, and mathematics domain) makes it an easy site to navigate.
Detailed instructor notes for each lesson are particularly helpful. In addition to providing the essential information to teach the lesson, suggested adaptions for technology rich and technology poor classrooms, and a variety of assessments with grading keys are available. The instructor notes also differentiate between essential and supplemental lesson components.
