Mariann Fedele-McLeod, Principal Researcher, American Institutes for Research
Ms. Fedele-McLeod serves as the Director on the Promoting Teacher Effectiveness in Adult Education Project. She has been involved in the field of adult education since 1991. Most recently, she served as the Director of the California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO), the statewide professional development system. From 2001 through 2008, she led professional development initiatives on behalf of the New York State Education Department as a staff developer and Director of the New York City Regional Adult Education Network. As moderator of the National Institute for Literacy’s Technology and Literacy Discussion List, a role she held from 2004 through 2008, she led a nationwide discussion of more than 700 adult education practitioners on research, policy, and practice related to the use of technology in adult education. She is the Past-Chair of the Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers (AALPD), a national professional development advocacy organization.
Jackie Taylor, Professional Development List Moderator, Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS)
Ms. Taylor is a Professional Development Specialist with experience designing, coordinating, facilitating, and evaluating online and face-to-face staff development to support practitioner-driven professional learning. Previously with the UT Center for Literacy Studies (2001-2007), she now works with clients at the state and national level.
Jackie moderates the Adult Literacy Professional Development Discussion List, sponsored by LINCS in partnership with the Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers (AALPD). Ms. Taylor began moderating the List at its inception in 2003, then with approximately 70 subscribers, and continues to support the List with 1,700 subscribed in 2012. On the PD List, she led the development of the AALPD Recommended Policies to Support Professional Development for Adult Basic Education Practitioners and facilitated field input via the PD List on the AALPD Professional Development Quality Standards.
She also manages all aspects of technology and social media for the National Coalition for Literacy. She has been the professional development editor for ProLiteracy, including leading the development of the Literacy for Social Change Training Project in collaboration with a ProLiteracy team.
A former GED teacher, Jackie is now president-elect of the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) and is team leader in developing COABE’s Professionalization Database (to be released June 2012).
