Project Care: Introduction to Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse
This resource supports the teaching of specific education and training content that can be implemented by classroom instructors in the context of a particular career cluster.
Project Care is a website for high-intermediate to advanced English language learners who want to learn about caring for others while improving their communication with medical personnel. The website provides audio and video for listening practice, vocabulary development, project ideas and links to related health information. The unit on alcohol abuse and alcoholism provides an opportunity for students to navigate through a series of activities on the website that include: (1) Listening to a summary case study of a family trying to help a loved one; (2) Previewing vocabulary that will be used in the video; (3) Watching a video of an expert commenting on the full case study; (4) Testing listening comprehension; and (5) Selecting and completing a project that will help them learn more about alcohol abuse and alcoholism. The website provides audio and video for listening and practicing new vocabulary words. It also provides project ideas and links to related health information.
