Abstract

Project Care is a website for high-intermediate to advanced English language learners who want to learn about caring for others while improving their communication with medical personnel. The website provides audio and video for listening practice, vocabulary development, project ideas and links to related health information. The unit on Alzheimer’s disease provides an opportunity for students to navigate through a series of activities on the website that include: (1) Listening to a summary case study of a family trying to help a loved one; (2) Previewing vocabulary that will be used in the video; (3) Watching a video of an expert commenting on the full case study; (4) Testing listening comprehension; and (5) Selecting and completing a project that will help them learn more about Alzheimer’s disease. The website provides audio and video for listening and practicing new vocabulary words. It also provides project ideas and links to related health information.

Benefits and Uses

This resource teaches workplace competencies and communication skills to high-intermediate to advanced English language learners in a healthcare context relevant to the Health Science and Human Services career cluster. Students will learn and practice vocabulary words related to the topic of Alzheimer’s disease, and develop an understanding of the skills necessary to navigate through the field of healthcare and human services.
