Abstract

This curriculum is a 36-hour/12 day pre-college healthcare career pathways introduction course that allows students to explore a variety of healthcare pathways while at the same time exposing them to a number of college-prep activities in the context of healthcare. It includes a variety of materials such as lesson plans, PowerPoints, and handouts. Topics include: (1) Careers in healthcare; (2) Career assessment; (3) Person-environment fit; (4) Critical healthcare competencies; (5) Applying to college; (6) Financial aid; (7) Admissions; (8) Clinic and hospital tours; (9) National career readiness and work readiness credentials; (10) Job seeking skills; and (11) Goal setting.

Benefits and Uses

This course is designed to prepare students to enter healthcare programs at the community college level. The curriculum fits the context of Health Science career cluster.
