Abstract

This 15+ hour medical office curriculum contains instructional and support materials that builds English language, technology, and soft skills within career specific units of instruction. Included are unit materials with instructor guidelines, unit benchmarks, and student worksheets including a culminating activity that gives students the opportunity to apply all they have learned in the course. Additional student materials are available, including a video on the respiratory system.This unit prepares students to enter medical office and related programs. Topics include: (1) Vocabulary for medical office including vocabulary related to major body systems; (2) Scanning for key information; (3) Exploration of medical office careers; (4) Scheduling appointments; and (5) Solving dilemmas in the work place.

Benefits and Uses

The curriculum is designed to prepare students to enter a medical office or related program in the context of the Health Science career cluster.
