Developing Oral Proficiency in Adults Learning English (ELL-U)
This training will help participants understand the concept of oral language proficiency and how it can be developed in the adult English as a second language classroom. Participants in this workshop will be able to describe components of oral proficiency and identify resources to improve learners’ listening and speaking abilities based on insights from second language acquisition research. Participants will discuss and practice communicative activities designed to facilitate the development of learners’ listening comprehension, language complexity, and communication skills. Finally, participants will design instructional activities to use in their specific instructional contexts.
