Abstract

This 15+ hour retail customer service curriculum contains instructional and support materials that build English language, technology, numeracy, and soft skills within career specific units of instruction. Included are unit materials with instructor guidelines, unit benchmarks, and student worksheets including a culminating activity that gives students the opportunity to apply all they have learned in the course. This unit prepares students to enter the Retail Customer Service course. Topics include: (1) Vocabulary for retail customer service; (2) Scanning for key information; (3) Exploration of retail customer service careers; (4) Greeting customers and asking open-ended questions; (5) Using adjectives to describe product features; and (6) Mental math practice, calculating percent discounts, and using calculators.

Benefits and Uses

This bridge-prep course prepares students for the bridge courses leading to further education and/or entry positions in the retail industry in the context of the Marketing career cluster.
